Meet Mr. Nye

  • I am richly blessed with my wife Chelsea, a local fashion designer and business owner of Chels Marie Boutique, and five incredible kids Dominic, Felicity, Sophia, Emma, and Madeleine.
  • I felt called to teach Theology by my own faith journey. At a pivotal moment in my life it was the passionate and loving teaching of the richness of the faith that helped me to encounter God.
  • I was drawn to St. John Paul II because of its powerful mission and the opportunity to be a part of something new. It has been such a blessing to be a part of this mission and helped created the culture and traditions of the school.
  • My hope and passion for my students is that they can come to know the beauty and depth of the faith in a transformative way. I want them to be brilliant scripture scholars as well as of course becoming saints. I pray that all that I teach is reflected by the way I live my life.
  • While at St. John Paul II I was instrumental in starting, teaching, and growing a dual credit theology class, bringing the largest group from the entire state of Texas to the March for Life in Austin the last several years, and leading the theology department while the school was nationally recognized by the Cardinal Neuman Society for its Catholic identity.

Education/Experience:

  • In college I pursued a degree from Franciscan University of Steubenville and earned a BA in Theology and History and Masters in Theology and Christian Ministry. Experiences at college included advocacy at the United Nations during 51st Commission on the Status of Women and chastity focused missionary work in Belize.
  • My initial post college experience included two years of youth ministry at Sacred Heart in Rockport, TX under pastor Msgr. Louis Kihneman who is now Bishop Kihneman of Biloxi, MS. Responsibilities included RCIA for youth, Confirmation prep, and Middle School through High School youth ministry.
  • For the past fourteen years I have served at John Paul II High School teaching Theology I, II, Theology IV and being active in campus ministry.
  • Outside the JPII campus, I have been active in ministry throughout the diocese of Corpus Christi including teaching adult faith formation at five local parishes and at the diocesan level through the St. Paul School of Catechesis. I directed the 2010 Youth Spectacular and have been a keynote speaker at two others.  I have served on the Diocesan Communication Advisory Board and in the United States Coast Guard Reserves as a Marine Science Technician.
