Letter From Principal

February 27, 2021

Dear St. John Paul II High School Families,

We recently learned that an individual that has tested positive for COVID-19 was present on our campus this week. In addition, a second individual that is presumed positive for COVID-19 was also on campus this week.  Both were asymptomatic at the time of attendance and were present unknowingly during the infectious period of the illness.

We are working together with the Office of Catholic Schools for the Diocese of Corpus Christi and the Nueces County Health Department to identify all potential close contacts and to quickly respond to the situation.

Those families who have a student that was in class together with either of these individuals, have  been notified with a precautionary “In Class Notification Letter.”  Also, anyone that has been identified as a close contact has been informed with a “Notification of Close Contact Letter.” If you did not receive any additional notices, it is because your student did not likely come into contact with these individuals.

At this time we have both students and, because our small staff size, a significant number of staff members who will be required to stay at home to quarantine and monitor for illness  Due to the number of absences, and in effort to ensure the safety of all students and staff, it is necessary that all classes transition to virtual learning for for the week of March 1 - March 5.

Classes will resume in-person following Spring Break on Monday, March 15.

Please note: This is not an early Spring Break. Students need to be attentive to their classes next week (March 1 - 5) since it is the last week of the grading period with assignments due and tests to be taken. It is important that they finish the 3rd quarter strong.

All members of the school community are asked to remain vigilant in daily self-screening for symptoms of COVID-19 in the household.  Please stay home and contact the school office if there have been any known exposures to suspected or confirmed COVID-19 or any of the below symptoms of COVID-19 in the household, even if symptoms are mild.

Cough / Fever / Shortness of Breath / Difficulty Breathing / Headache / Sore Throat / Chills /        Loss of taste or smell / Diarrhea / Feeling feverish / Muscle Pain / Vomiting

There is one additional note that I wish to mention. Due to the circumstances of the pandemic, we are both short staffed at times and without substitute teachers to help fill in some of the gaps. If you would be willing to help as a substitute teacher during the 4th quarter, please call the front office after Spring Break and let us know.

I am thankful for the efforts of our students, parents, teachers and staff to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and the continued spirit to rise above the many challenges we face. Please join me in prayer for the continued health and wellbeing of our entire school community.

Regards

Michael Edghill
